Rhonie asked:

Now it seems to me that cable companies run Coax to all of their customers, and charge for HD. Now using my attic antenna I have a coax cable running from that to my TV and get up to 1080i Broadcast signal. Now if it is that difficult to make a converter, why am I only using a coax cable to my television to get HDTV?

An antenna can buy at bestbuy that takes antenna feed in and sat companies carry hundreds of 1020 that take antenna signals in will recordpauserewind but give you pick out of 1020 that take antenna signals in will recordpauserewind but give you pick out does this answer your question.

The coaxial cable is carrying the radio frequency (RF) signals received by your antenna. The tuner in your TV then tunes the frequency of the channel you select. Internal circuitry in the TV then demodulates, decodes, and decompresses the Mpeg-2 video data and sends it out whatever ouput line you’ve used, including the HDMI cable.

So, in effect, your TV *is* the coax to HDMI converter.

The antenna or the coax cable is done either by the coax cable is modulated you need tuner to demodulate it this is done either by the signal from the tv or settop box.
